No. Texas does not require prelicensing education. You must be 18, pass the state exam, submit the application with the 50 dollar fee and clear a fingerprint background check. No required hours, no approved provider, no certificate to turn in.
The combined exam has 100 scoreable general questions plus 30 scoreable questions on Texas law, with a few unscored pretest questions mixed in. The general portion follows a public outline with fixed weights per section.
Pearson VUE administers Texas insurance licensing exams for the Texas Department of Insurance. You schedule online and take it at a test center or via online proctoring.
In 2025, 42,566 people sat for it. 57% passed on the first attempt and 50% passed overall. The number that matters more: people taking it a second time passed at only 40%, worse than first timers. That is the tell. The usual problem is direction, not difficulty: studying everything equally instead of drilling the sections where you lose points.
